Since it’s Pride, I thought I’d share a brief post about a different queer character in my stories for every day in June. Of course I’m a little behind, so here’s Alexander for day 2, haha
Alexander

Alex (they/them) is the second MC of the queer crocodile book. They are a greyromantic, asexual, non-binary, cynical reporter who wants to see Kingsley hang for many, many, many reasons; the biggest reason being that Kingsley once tortured, Christine, their wife. They are currently interviewing Kingsley, who is being tried for war crimes, and sharing all information with the prosecution hoping it will ensure a guilty verdict.
Their current theme song:
Are you happy now with all the choices you’ve made?
Winners and Losers by Social Distortion
Are there times in life when you know you should’ve stayed?
Will you compromise and then realize the price is too much to pay?
Winners and losers, which one will I be today?
Alex is a Ferdarian which means they’ve been born into a certain amount of privilege. Add the fact that their mother is a editor in chief of a popular newspaper and their father was a senator and chief of staff for the Ferdarian president, Alex has lived a bit of a pampered life. Their parents did their best to make sure Alex was aware of the many injustices occurring in their world, but Alex never really experienced severe hardship until the Second Shadow War, which took almost everything from them. He served as a war correspondent during the war and saw more than his fair share of violence and may have been partially responsible for turning an important Demon…..
The war severely challenged their worldview and led them to question everything they once believed in. Add the PTSD and the failing marriage, and they find themselves borderline suicidal, so their solution was to self-harm by interviewing the crocodile who once tortured their wife.

Important Relationships
Alex has only ever been with one person and that’s their wife, Christine. Alex is best friends with her cousins and met her through them. Christine is a special person because she believes she’s receiving messages from the “gods” or spirits of the world. Alex can’t truly believe anything like that, but does their best to support her as she struggles to understand why she hears voices that seem to predict the future with some consistency. Alex was initially drawn to her because she was alone and misunderstood and they felt increasingly alone and misunderstand as most of their family members and friends explored their own sexualities and lives. They became good friends and at some point Alex realized that Christine felt comfortable to be around and they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Then the war came, separating them for years with Alex writing about the war and Christine joining a resistance movement and eventually falling into enemy hands who tortured her.
They got married after the war and both struggled to adjust to “normality” and living with each other. They tried to have a kid, praying that it would fill the gaping hole that existed, not only in their relationship, but in each other. They were warned the pregnancy could jeopardize Christine’s health, but Alex wanted to try anyway and the pregnancy nearly killed Christine. Unable to live with the fact that they nearly killed Christine with their desire for a “normal” family, they left and immediately traveled to Bearcaska to interview Kingsley. Their greatest fear at this point is that they won’t be able to heal their relationship with Christine. She’s all they have left at this point. They can’t lose her.
