I’ve been working on the seventh draft of the Demon WIP since September 23rd and thought I’d write a quick update on how this story is developing (not developing/ Spiraling out of control again?)

The short summary so far: A prince, doomed to end his family’s bloodline, a vengeful Demon King who is simply waiting for his love’s permission to ripe God’s heart out of Their chest, a mad doctor who likes to experiment on Demons, and a former priest turned scholar who is now No. 1 on the Church’s most wanted list must work together to overthrow a corrupt theocracy before the Church’s (un)holy assassin kill them all and destroy the safe haven they’ve created for the unwanted.. 

I’ve been working on the seventh draft of the Demon WIP since September 23rd, and so far I’ve written 23K words. I’m thinking this draft is going to be about 200K to 230K words, which means I’m about 10% done, so progress! My goal was to write 100K by the end of October, but we’ll see. I’ll probably only get to 50k this month which is still progress, so I won’t complain. 

However, I am a little nervous that I’ve only completed four chapters and I’m already at 23k…I really don’t want the first ten chapters to be close to 100K but we’ll see. Storywise, the four chapters are very dynamic. Someone’s been stabbed during a negotiation, someone is mutilating their own face, someone’s been arrested and tortured for betraying God, and someone is committing arson – as you do, haha.

I’ve also created a Russian doll sort of effect with the first ten chapters because the events do not occur chronologically and so you sort of jump around and have to put things together to get the full picture. I’m enjoying it from a storytelling perspective and hopefully it works for the readers. 

I’m enjoying the book so far even though I’m worried it’s going to become unwieldy again. There is a lot that needs to happen and while I’d like it to be 120-150K during the rewrite, I may have to accept that this is going to be a chunky book. At least it won’t be a boring book, haha.

I would like to finish the demon wip by end of 2022, but I’m also getting the Queer Croc edits back on 10/23 and would also like to get that prepared for potential publication next year…so we’ll see.
