MCs in the Demon WIP

My mutual AmaraJLynn runs a hashtag game on Twitter called LGBTQWriMo and today’s prompt was: “Introduce your MC”. Since I already introduced my MCs on Twitter and Tumblr, I thought I’d introduce them here as well.

There are four MCs in the Demon WIP.

Rashid

First, Rashid, the anxious, depressed, suicidal, trans, bi disaster prince who married the assassin hired to kill him, is dating a Demon, and is creating a safe haven for the Church’s most wanted. Artwork by the amazing sethpuertoluna (on Twitter)

A drawing of a brown man with black curly hair and a black eyepatch. He is wearing a dark purple robe with a pattern of pink chrysanthemum. Behind him are pink chrysanthemums and dark purple patterns

Rashid is a walking disaster but his one skill is attracting, managing, and utilizing the people around him. He is hyper aware of his own weaknesses which means he is eager to rely on the talent of others without making it a competition. However, he’s also a prince and can’t forget allow anyone to forget it, including himself.

Rashid has the almost impossible task of protecting his collection of the condemned and his own family’s interests from the corrupt theocracy and their (un)holy assassins.

Sophia

The second MC is Sophia, a misplaced real estate agent who wants to escape her abusive father and ends up in the middle of a regional civil war (don’t you hate when that happens?).

A eight square aesthetic. The left top square is a black and white woman reaching to the sky, the next square is a person playing a cello, the middle square is the back of a woman with red hair in a braided ponytail, the right hand square is a desk covered in a globe, papers, and books, the square below that is a neon picture of a glass of wine, the bottom left square is a metal fence, the middle bottom square is a thorny branch, and in the bottom right square is a skull

She is dating two questionable men:

A black and white, six square aesthetic. In the left hand corner is a pair of ballerinas dancing, the right square is hands running down a naked back, the square below that is another ballerina, the square next to that is a homeless tent, in the bottom left hand corner is a chain fence, and in the bottom right corner is a shattering scotch class. There is text in a red ribbon across the middle of the aesthetic that says: 'A self-destructive idiot with tragedy in his blood'

Dmitri, a ballerina who has a Gargoyle grandmother and sister & several secrets (he may also be involved in some Gargoyle succession chaos, but no one – even the author – truly knows).

A five square black and white aesthetic. In the left hand corner is a woman closing her glittery eyelids, on the right hand corner is a hand pressed against a glass window, in the left bottom corner is a shattering glass, in the middle is a woman reaching out to the sky, and in the right hand bonttom corner is a piece of better saying truth and crushed into loose dirt. There is text that says "So dry you eyes and count to ten/they'll have me on the pyre by then/forget the man I used to be/you'll move along more easily/NOW I must finish what I started
Vsily’s aesthetic, text is from the song For the Departed by Shayfer James

Vasily a child born during terrible circumstances to terrible people (think of Laurie’s origins from Watchmen) turned child soldier, turned spy turned priest turned most despised child of God. He may have stolen some important things from God, including a “weapon” that can “kill” God, or at least the most popular understanding of “God”.

Sophia means well but is in over her head & just wants her lovers to *survive*, please, if that isn’t too much to ask. Since she is not native to the region, there is a lot pressure for her to return home before things “get worse” but how can she leave her friends and lovers to their fate? At this point in the WIP she is having a mini crisis of living in a region that is on the brink of war, dating two men who seem to be the cause and victims of that war, and coming from a country that is funding the war.

She wants to help, but has a lot of internal bias she needs to check and a lot of “knowledge” she needs to unlearn before she can be truly useful. She also needs to embrace some aspects about herself and family she despises while taking advantage of the assholes her father knows well, to save her friend’s lives.

Ecaterina

The third MC is Ecaterina, a nationalist turned (un)holy assassin turned scientist. She is also aro-ace. As an assassin, she was in charge of hunting those who didn’t believe in the Church doctrine as well as Demons. While hunting Demons, she became interested in their biological structure and function and began to secretly study their remains. The Church found out, but tolerated it when it was only about killing them more efficiently. Ecaterina eventually took a different route, and began to believe the Demonic condition wasn’t a curse from God, but a disease or medical condition that could be managed. The Church turned on her and sent her to a labor camp to die.

a six square aesthetic, the first square full of surgical tools, the next square an x-ray of a skull, the next square has a deer skull. below that square is a doctor's plague mask, next to that square is a pair of dirty hands come up from a cliff that faces the sea, and the last square is a skull. There is text that says let the truth be known even if it destroys the world

Ecaterina has to escape the camp and travel to Potushar, a city run by her brother. A brother who is still furious at her for becoming an unholy assassin. It turns out, her brother is an advisor to Rashid and they have their hands full with the impending invasion from the corrupt theocracy Ecaterina worked for only a year or so ago.

Danijela

Finally, we have the Demon Queen, Danijela. One of the last of the Demon aristocracy, she and her lover, Rezan, are looking for a place where they can build a safe haven for Demons. Rezan also wants the ability to destroy God, but Danijela thinks it’s a foolish plan that will only get everyone they cared about killed. She knows she can’t stop him from pursuing the idea, but she wants little to nothing to do with it.

A four square aesthetic with a red, liquid filter over it. The first square is of a man and woman kissing in the dark, the next square is a dark haired woman with long black hair and blood on her lips, chin, and hands, the next square is a massive collection of skulls laid out on the ground, and the final square is a bundle of white tulips. There is text that says: "My love, I will tear God from his bloody throne for you."

They travel to the city of Potushar because both Rashid and Vasily are there. They are drawn into the regional civil war. They believe if they help Rashid resist the corrupt theocracy and protect his family’s interests he will grant them a homeland.

Danijela works with Rashid and tolerates Ecaterina’s research because it can make the Demon condition easier to manage, but Rezan is interested in what Vasily stole & how it can be used against their common enemy. Danijela supports her lover, but fears what his obsession will cost them.
